About the Role
As a Bailiff, you will play a vital role working on the front line, dealing with people at some of the most challenging points of their lives. You will work away from an office environment, either independently or in a small team, with varied and flexible days. Your role involves visiting people in their homes and businesses, calmly explaining the purpose of your visit and available options to resolve matters. You will demonstrate empathy, remain non-judgmental, and carry out your duties with respect for the customers you meet.

This position offers full bailiff training, including Court Management systems, and ongoing mentoring from experienced staff while in the field. Unlike private bailiffs, this role allows you to make a meaningful difference within HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) and develop your career within the Civil Service.

You will have the option to use your own car or, after successful completion of probation, a lease car (a full UK driving licence is essential). Fuel allowances and full PPE with safety training are provided to ensure confidence and competence in your duties. Familiarity with IT and willingness to learn court case management systems are required.

Travel to other courts within the London Region may be required on an ad-hoc basis.

Experience
Previous experience is not explicitly required; however, excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively in emotionally charged situations are essential.

About you
You will be an excellent communicator, able to swiftly assess situations and adapt accordingly. You should be confident in leading and managing your workload independently while remaining flexible. Empathy, non-judgmental attitude, and respect for court users are vital. You must be comfortable working outdoors and visiting various locations.

A full UK driving licence entitling you to drive permanently in Great Britain is essential for this role. You should be familiar with IT and open to training on court management systems.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are specified; however, successful completion of bailiff training and court management system training will be provided. A full clean UK driving licence is mandatory.
