About the Role
The post holder will teach courses within the SEND department, both onsite and occasionally in community settings. They will ensure high-quality delivery through the implementation of Quality Assurance processes and contribute to the College’s growth by supporting a vibrant curriculum and improving learner outcomes. The role also involves assisting with focused curriculum development, personalised employment support, and learner progression.

The post holder will help meet the College’s strategic goals, especially targeting priority groups under the Adult Skills Fund, and will collaborate with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to deliver a high-quality programme aligned with learner and employer needs.

The allocation of hours is outlined in the job advert and may be subject to change if business needs evolve.

Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking a teaching commitment for the work offered and ensuring availability
- Ensuring learners receive a continuous learning experience with minimal disruption
- Planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating all courses, considering exams and internal college syllabi
- Delivering stimulating, engaging, and relevant sessions aligned to the Scheme of Learning and course specifications
- Setting high expectations for learners, embedding college and course expectations, British Values and life skills
- Managing the learning process effectively, differentiating teaching to meet learner needs and interests
- Uploading all relevant teaching, learning and assessment materials to the virtual learning environment, keeping them up to date
- Maintaining accurate learner, group and progress tracking documents, including attendance and punctuality
- Setting challenging teaching and learning objectives relevant to course intent and learner development
- Agreeing individual learning plans with learners, setting and monitoring SMART targets, and providing meaningful feedback
- Systematically assessing learners’ work with timely, developmental feedback
- Encouraging learners to reflect on and improve their own performance
- Providing subject specialist advice and support, including progression guidance and referrals to careers teams
- Identifying and planning additional support for learners in liaison with the learning support team
- Working with exams, curriculum support and other teams to ensure accurate records and exam arrangements
- Planning out-of-classroom learning opportunities such as placements, volunteering, visits and employment-based settings
- Supporting the development of exciting programmes that enable learners to gain new skills, qualifications and knowledge
- Participating in college marketing events to promote courses to new learners and employers
- Writing detailed course outlines to support department and college promotion
- Conducting interviews and initial/diagnostic assessments for potential learners
- Attending and contributing to departmental, college and external meetings as required (attendance paid separately)
- Keeping up to date with assessments, examinations and related records
- Liaising with the Exams team to support smooth operation of internal and external exams
- Undertaking and maintaining training in Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent and Data Protection/GDPR
- Complying with Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training
- Undertaking other duties commensurate with the grade, supporting College priorities and management
- Taking responsibility for Health & Safety in own work areas
- Proactively managing own professional development in consultation with Line Manager
- Adhering to all College policies including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Data Protection, core values and confidentiality
- Being a proactive and effective team member working flexibly towards department and College strategic targets
- Supporting the improvement, growth and sustainability of the College

Experience
- Experience of teaching in Adult Education or Further Education post-16 college/training environment
- Experience teaching a range of levels up to GCSE English/Maths, including preparation for GCSE and functional skills
- Experience of quality improvement processes which support and develop practice

Qualifications
- An appropriate teaching qualification for the Post-16 sector (e.g. DET / Cert. Ed. or equivalent) and/or willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification within the first year of appointment
- A qualification in the subject specialism to at least Level 4 (e.g. HND, 1st Degree) or in-depth knowledge with a minimum of 3 years’ substantial experience in teaching English/Maths
- Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics
- A1 Assessors qualification or equivalent
- V1 Verifiers qualification or equivalent
