About the Role
Sutton College is seeking a dynamic and experienced Barista Skills Tutor to deliver the Barista Skills Level 2 Award (VTCT). You will support learners to develop a hands-on approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge, and understanding in barista skills including displaying drink building techniques, cleaning and checking equipment, demonstrating product knowledge, and serving customers.

Key responsibilities include ensuring a safe and organised learning environment adhering to all safety guidelines, creating a positive and encouraging learning atmosphere that promotes skills development and confidence, engaging learners using a range of teaching and learning strategies, adapting teaching methods to suit a diverse range of learners, and assessing learner progress with constructive feedback.

The post holder will teach onsite at the college, ensuring high-quality delivery through quality assurance processes and contributing to the college’s growth by supporting a vibrant curriculum aimed at excellent learner outcomes. The role also involves assisting with focused curriculum development, personalised employment support, and learner progression. The post holder will help meet the college’s strategic goals, particularly targeting priority groups under the Adult Skills Fund, and collaborate with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to deliver a high-quality programme aligned with learner and employer needs.

We are looking for tutors who can support learners to achieve their personal and academic goals, gain the qualification and life skills within and outside the classroom, and prepare for their next steps in learning or work. A passion for teaching, good subject and industry knowledge, and a desire to enhance learners’ opportunities are essential.

Requirements

Experience
Teaching in Adult Education or Further Education Post 16 college/training environment. Experience of teaching a range of levels in the subject area. Experience of quality improvement processes which support and develop practice.

Qualifications
An appropriate teaching qualification for the Post 16 Sector (e.g. DET / Cert. Ed. or equivalent) and/or willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification within the first year of appointment. A qualification in the subject specialism to at least Level 4 (e.g. HND, 1st Degree), or in-depth knowledge with a minimum of 3 years’ substantial experience in the subject area. Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics.
