Hours
Full Time. This role may require working extended hours for which a Private Secretary allowance is payable.
Salary
£53,081 per annum. Existing Civil Servants will have their salary calculated in accordance with the Department’s pay on transfer / pay on promotion rules.
About the Role
Join the Private Office and Parliament (POP) Directorate at the Ministry of Justice as a Deputy Private Secretary to the Lord Chancellor. This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of ministerial decision-making, providing direct support to Ministers and gaining exposure to high-profile policy areas. You will be based in a busy, dynamic, and friendly team that acts as the interface between Ministers, the Department, and Whitehall.
In this role, you will lead on a portfolio, ensuring correspondence and advice are managed efficiently and providing expert support to the Lord Chancellor on a range of issues. You will collaborate with policy, Parliamentary, and other Private Office colleagues to keep the minister fully briefed and prepared for meetings, providing accurate readouts and ensuring follow-up actions are completed. You will also deputize for the G7 Head of Desk when required.
This role covers the Courts and Victims and Constitution desks in the Lord Chancellor’s office. It offers active development opportunities and the chance to work flexibly in a supportive environment that values your contribution.

You will be highly organised, able to make effective decisions at pace, and possess strong interpersonal skills to act as a credible source of advice and a key liaison between the minister and the department. You should enjoy problem solving and be confident supporting Ministers in a public-facing role.
Qualifications
There are no specific qualification requirements for this role, but candidates must be eligible for Security Clearance (SC) and meet the UK residency requirements for the past 5 years due to the sensitive nature of the role.
