
Location
National – Hybrid. Hubs located in Newport, Nottingham, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, London and Wakefield. Office attendance expected minimum 60% (3 days per week) with some travel required.
Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week. Alternative working patterns may be considered but may not meet business needs.
Salary
£35,335 per annum plus Ministry of Justice contribution of £10,236 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
About the Role
As an HR Case Manager within the Ministry of Justice HR Casework Team, you will provide professional HR advice and guidance to managers across multiple government departments. You will manage a portfolio of complex employee relations and HR casework matters, focusing on achieving the best outcomes for both the organisation and colleagues. This role requires managing cases such as attendance, conduct, dispute resolution, Early Conciliation, and Employment Tribunals through both face-to-face regional and remote interventions.
You will act as a trusted critical friend to managers, ensuring best practice, legal compliance, and early resolution of cases. The role is hands-on and fast-paced, requiring excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
Key responsibilities include managing complex HR cases, supporting managers via the Manager Advice Line and email, providing pragmatic advice aligned with employment law and policies, coaching managers on people management, maintaining strong customer service relationships, ensuring accurate case management records, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within HR.
Experience
Proven experience in employee relations or managing HR cases and delivering sound HR advice. Strong, current knowledge of UK employment law and HR policy with the ability to apply it pragmatically. Experience supporting managers and handling complex HR casework is essential.

Qualifications
CIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR qualification is desirable but not essential. Experience working with Trade Unions or in a unionised environment and experience using a Case Management system are advantageous.
