About the Role
The Records Reviewer role is based within the Records Management Service (RMS), part of the Security and Information Directorate (SID) under the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). SID supports the department’s transformation by managing security, data protection, and information risks, ensuring MoJ functions securely, lawfully, and transparently. The RMS is responsible for managing both electronic and paper records in compliance with legislation including the Public Records Act 1958 and 1967, GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and Freedom of Information Act 2000.

In this role, the job holder will review MoJ records retained by business areas and courts when they are approximately 20 years old to determine their historical importance and suitability for permanent preservation at The National Archives (TNA). The role involves working with both paper and digital records, requiring adaptation of traditional paper-based review processes to fit digital workflows. There is a manual handling element to the role and some records may contain distressing content, which must be handled professionally.

The Records Reviewer will contribute to the transformation and improvement of records review processes, ensuring compliance with legislation and operational policies, and supporting the effective management and preservation of MoJ’s historical records.
