Where does this role sit?
We're the Business and Client Banking division, part of Commercial Banking and we work across several business platform areas. Our purpose is to create and deliver products that enable clients to grow their businesses. Those businesses provide services that millions of customers across the UK rely upon, day-to-day and especially in their time of need.
Summary of our Roles?
This is part of a group of three roles being recruited for the team including two senior engineers. This is part of our journey to increase our team presence and maturing our Azure Public Cloud Platform.
This is a key time in our journey, and we're seeking people who will enjoy the opportunity to shape the direction and success of our team as it continues to grow and lead the way on building cloud native solutions.
What will you spend your time doing?
You'll work in a hybrid role which combines Site Reliability, Platform, DevOps and Systems engineering, to build and run large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. The diversity, intellectual curiosity, continual learning, problem solving and openness to learning are key to its success.
Our Engineers are passionate about ensuring the services, both internal and external have; substantial reliability, uptime appropriate to users' needs, resiliency, architectural simplicity, as well as continually seeking to find improvements.
You'll have the opportunity to deal with complex challenges, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity/forensic analysis and various system design strategies to address those challenges.
Your focus will be to support the senior DevOps / SRE Engineers on Azure, building new Azure PaaS and IaaS solutions for services currently not running on Azure and eliminating manual work through automation wherever feasible. A further stage will be to apply those skills to GCP, but this is further down the road.
You'll get the opportunity to support some of the following activities and be trained up on any elements you have not supported before:
Container Image Management & Security
Service Mesh (Istio)
Kubernetes
Helmfile & Helm Charts
Azure Resource Manager (ARM) Templates & Blueprints
Azure DevOps CI/CD Automation (Build & Release)
Micro Services and Larger Application Service Deployments in K8s
Automated Unit/Integration/Load Testing
Performance Testing & Monitoring (Junit, Gatling, LoadRunner)
Observability, Logging, Monitoring & Alerting (Azure Monitor & Dynatrace)
Networks
Azure API Gateway Management
Azure IAM - Identity & Access Management
Azure Policy Management & Cloud Security
Cost Management

We like people who come from diverse cultural backgrounds and are really looking for someone passionate, daring and has a good problem solving attitude. On your CV, we need to see the following to consider you for interview:
Prior work experience within the field of DevOps and ideally you'll have a wider software engineering background. We find this level of role suites people well who have worked in DevOps for 2-5 years as a rough guide!
Knowledge of Azure Cloud, or DevOps in another cloud platform.
DevOps abilities with experience of integration tools such as any of the following; Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Nexus, and Git
Kubernetes & Istio (AKS an advantage) - some exposure beneficial but not essential.
Intermediate knowledge of Bash/Shell scripting
Intermediate knowledge in Java or NodeJS
