About the Role
The post holder will teach courses within the SEND department, both onsite and occasionally in community settings. They will ensure high-quality delivery through the implementation of Quality Assurance processes and contribute to the College’s growth by supporting a vibrant curriculum and improving learner outcomes. The role also involves assisting with focused curriculum development, personalised employment support, and learner progression.

The post holder will support the College’s strategic goals, particularly targeting priority groups under the Adult Skills Fund, and will collaborate with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to deliver a high-quality programme aligned with learner and employer needs.

The allocation of hours is outlined in the job advert and may be subject to change depending on business needs.

Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking a teaching commitment for the work offered and ensuring availability to provide learners with a continuous learning experience with minimal disruption.
- Planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating all courses, considering exams and internal college syllabi and processes.
- Delivering stimulating and engaging sessions aligned with the current Scheme of Learning and course intent.
- Setting high expectations for learners from the start, embedding college and course expectations along with British Values and life skills.
- Managing the learning process effectively, differentiating teaching to meet learner needs and ensuring appropriate challenge and support.
- Uploading all relevant teaching, learning and assessment materials to the virtual learning environment, keeping them up to date and aligned to unit delivery.
- Maintaining accurate learner, group and progress tracking documents, including attendance and punctuality records.
- Setting challenging teaching and learning objectives relevant to the course intent and learner development.
- Agreeing individual learning plans with learners, setting and monitoring SMART targets, and providing meaningful feedback.
- Systematically assessing learners’ work and providing timely, developmental feedback.
- Encouraging learners to reflect on and improve their own performance.
- Providing subject specialist advice and support, including progression guidance and referrals to careers teams.
- Identifying and planning additional support for learners in liaison with the learning support team.
- Working with exams, curriculum support and other teams to ensure accurate records, exam registrations and schedules.
- Planning opportunities for learners to experience out-of-classroom contexts such as placements, volunteering, and visits.
- Supporting the development of exciting programmes to help learners gain new skills, qualifications and knowledge.
- Participating in college marketing events to promote courses to new learners and employers.
- Writing detailed and accurate course outlines to support department and college promotion.
- Conducting interviews and initial assessments for new and existing learners.
- Attending and contributing to departmental, college and external meetings as required (meetings are paid in addition to the hourly rate).
- Keeping up to date with assessments, examinations and related record keeping.
- Undertaking mandatory training including Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent and Data Protection/GDPR.
- Complying with Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training.
- Supporting College priorities and management, including Health & Safety responsibilities within own work area.
- Taking responsibility for own professional development in consultation with Line Manager.
- Adhering to all College policies including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
- Working flexibly and efficiently as part of a team to achieve department and College strategic targets.
- Undertaking any other duties reasonably required by the Line Manager or delegated deputy.
- Supporting the improvement, growth and sustainability of the College.

Requirements

Experience
- Experience of teaching in Adult Education or Further Education post-16 college/training environment.
- Experience teaching a range of levels up to GCSE English/Maths, including preparation for GCSE and functional skills.
- Experience of quality improvement processes which support and develop practice.

Qualifications
- An appropriate teaching qualification for the Post-16 Sector (e.g. DET / Cert. Ed. or equivalent) and/or willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification within the first year of appointment.
- A qualification in the subject specialism to at least Level 4 (e.g. HND, 1st Degree) or in-depth knowledge with a minimum of 3 years’ substantial experience in teaching English/Maths.
- Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics.
- A1 Assessors qualification or equivalent.
- V1 Verifiers qualification or equivalent.
