About the Role
This role is part of the HS2 project, the UK’s new high-speed rail network designed to drive economic growth by connecting 8 of the UK’s 10 largest cities with fast, reliable services. Costain Group is delivering the HS2 Rail Systems Tunnel and Lineside Mechanical and Electrical Systems works across the entire HS2 Route (HRS02). The scope includes design, supply, manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of tunnel and lineside M&E systems, including tunnel services within shafts, tunnels, cross-passages, and low voltage electrical power distribution along the open route. The project also involves design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of tunnel ventilation systems. The scheme value at award is approximately £500m.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will support the design, review, and implementation of electrical systems for the HS2 open route lineside works. You will interface and coordinate with other HS2 Rail Systems contractors including track, signalling, telecoms, OHLE, and HV power. Responsibilities include reviewing technical documentation, drawings, and specifications, undertaking material selection, and preparing technical approval and acceptance documentation. You will ensure compliance with relevant UK rail industry standards and HS2 Works Information, identify and manage technical risks, and support problem resolution.

You will produce quality documentation such as Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and installation verification check sheets, support assurance, quality, and safety processes throughout the project lifecycle, and liaise with installation and construction teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with site requirements. Additionally, you will provide engineering support during installation, testing, and commissioning activities, work closely with the engineering team to coordinate requirements and programme delivery, liaise with procurement to specify and source electrical equipment, and maintain coordination with Design, Safety, and Planning teams. You will also promote and support Costain’s values and behaviours across the project.
