About the Role

The People & Procurement team sits within Corporate Technology, part of Internal Products, and is responsible for engineering capabilities supporting workforce management, employee experience, supplier management and procurement across the FT. This includes enterprise platforms such as Workday alongside other SaaS products, integrations, data flows and supporting services.

As Engineering Manager – People & Procurement, you will lead the engineering team responsible for the operation and continuous evolution of these technology capabilities. Reporting to the Principal Engineer – Corporate Technology, you will combine people leadership with technical direction and accountability for platform health and performance. Your role will focus on strengthening engineering leadership, establishing clear ownership, and enabling engineers to make effective technical decisions with autonomy.

You will work closely with Product and stakeholders across People and Procurement to translate business priorities into sustainable engineering plans that balance new capabilities, organisational change, platform health, technical debt, lifecycle management and operational investment. Additionally, you will partner with Principal Engineer and Architecture teams to shape the longer-term technology landscape evolution.

Key responsibilities include owning the engineering and operation of People & Procurement platforms, leading and developing engineers, establishing technical ownership, ensuring platform security and resilience, managing technical risks and dependencies, collaborating with Product to align engineering plans with business priorities, and managing vendor and partner relationships. You will also ensure compliance with security, privacy, data governance and technology standards, and lead operational performance including observability, incident management, change management, resilience and business continuity.

Experience
- Significant experience leading engineering teams responsible for complex, business-critical technology
- Strong experience with enterprise SaaS platforms and their wider technology ecosystems
- Proven ability to provide both people leadership and technical leadership, including developing engineering capability and strengthening technical ownership
- Deep understanding of enterprise platform engineering, including integrations, APIs, data flows and system dependencies
- Experience owning technology across its lifecycle from delivery through production operation and continuous improvement
- Strong knowledge of reliability, security, privacy, observability, operational risk and technology lifecycle management
- Ability to translate business priorities into engineering plans balancing feature delivery with platform health and technical investment
- Experience leading technical decisions involving enterprise SaaS platforms, integrations and supporting services
- Experience working with vendors, implementation partners or managed service providers while maintaining internal technical ownership
- Skilled in identifying and addressing technical debt, platform lifecycle concerns and key-person dependencies
- Excellent communication skills to clearly explain complex technical considerations and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Effective collaboration with senior engineers, architects, Product Managers and other engineering leaders

Qualifications
