About the Role
Framestore’s Immersive Studio is a world-leading innovator in crafting immersive experiences that transcend the screen, delivering extraordinary realms of adventure through creative technology, location-based entertainment, and theme park rides. We combine talent and technology to bring life to everything we create, driven by creativity and inspired by the future.
We are seeking a Game Environment Artist to join our Immersive team, working at the intersection of world-building, technology, and real-time storytelling. This role is ideal for an experienced environment artist with strong Unreal Engine expertise who enjoys building performant real-time environments as much as crafting stunning level art.
You will collaborate closely with Developers, Artists, and Production teams to bring the polish of our Film and TV work into real-time experiences such as location-based entertainment, theme parks, VR, and interactive projects. Your focus will be on level art, set dressing, texturing, and optimisation, while supporting tools and workflows that empower artists across the division.
You will balance performance and artistic intent, troubleshoot complex problems, and work closely with Asset Builders to integrate characters and props seamlessly into the environment.
Key responsibilities include creating high-quality 3D assets directly in Unreal Engine and external DCCs like Maya or Houdini, modelling high-poly, hard-surface, and organic forms, developing lookdev assets, focusing on PBR workflows, realistic lighting, and performance optimisation. You will build photoreal environments using bespoke kits and marketplace content, craft cinematic light rigs, benchmark and optimise performance in Unreal scenes, and maintain clear documentation of workflows and tools.
Experience
Demonstrable technical knowledge paired with strong creative and artistic skills.
Hands-on experience with look development, lighting, and rendering.
Comprehensive understanding of Unreal Engine.
Experience working on location-based entertainment or VR projects is a plus.
Familiarity with other game engines (e.g., Unity) or traditional VFX pipelines is advantageous.
About you
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Positive attitude towards learning and collaboration.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications required; however, proven experience and a strong portfolio demonstrating relevant skills are essential.
