About the Role
The Cabinet Office supports the Prime Minister and ensures the smooth running of government, from developing policy to modernising public services. Within the Cabinet Office, the Security & Resilience (COSR) Team leads on managing protective security, advising business units, and mitigating security threats across the department.
We are recruiting a dynamic EO Security Support Officer to work across our Security operations. To build departmental resilience and offer a rich learning experience, the successful candidate will rotate periodically across three high-performing and essential security teams:
- Vetting Team: Oversees National Security Vetting (NSV) across the Cabinet Office, ensuring compliance with NSV policies and working closely with UK Security Vetting (UKSV) and the Government Security Group (GSG).
- STRAP Team (STRAPSO): Regulates and monitors access to highly sensitive intelligence material requiring specialised protective handling beyond standard government arrangements.
- Incident Management Team: Manages security incidents, assesses risks, analyses data and escalates incidents and emerging threats to the appropriate teams or stakeholders.
Key duties include managing team inboxes and operational tracking systems, administering NSV applications and clearance processes, verifying candidate and stakeholder information, maintaining security records, managing access to secure facilities, supporting classified IT system access, delivering security briefings and training, supporting hardware and software projects, and investigating and reporting security incidents with recommendations.
Experience
Experience in administration, customer service, compliance, or HR is highly advantageous. Proven ability to maintain accurate records, databases, and track operational activities carefully is essential.
About you
You will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills including report writing and delivering briefings, and the ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Discretion and integrity in handling highly sensitive and classified information are critical. You must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications and able to learn specialised databases.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are stated as mandatory; however, a commitment to security standards and data protection is required. The role requires Developed Vetting (DV) clearance, which normally requires a minimum of 7 years UK residency in the past 10 years. UK nationality is required as a minimum.
