About the Role
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. With over 34,000 people in more than 30 countries, we are dedicated to improving quality of life by solving the world’s most complex challenges together.

The Fire Engineer role involves undertaking Fire Safety Engineering work, supporting design projects both within and outside the UK. This primarily includes consultancy-based desktop reviews during initial design stages and supporting the fire safety discipline across Arcadis. The role focuses mainly on the building sector, with occasional opportunities to support other sectors such as rail, reflecting Arcadis’ multidisciplinary nature and broad service offering.

Key responsibilities include fire engineering design across various sectors, delivering projects within time and cost budgets, and collaborating with clients, architects, project managers, contractors, subcontractors, and authorities to provide practical and compliant fire engineering advice and solutions. You will develop Fire Safety Strategy reports for new and existing buildings, conduct Means of Escape analysis including evacuation time calculations, escape route assessments, and evacuation strategy development.

The role requires a strong understanding of UK Fire Safety Regulations and Standards such as Approved Document B (AD B), BS 9999, BS 7974, BS 9991, BB100, HTM 05, as well as rail-specific standards including London Underground fire safety standards and Network Rail standards. You will keep up to date with emerging regulatory changes and apply risk-based interpretations of fire safety documents and international codes such as NFPA standards.

Additional duties include third party review and design verification, attending internal and external design team meetings, supporting Fire Risk Assessment report development for building and rail sectors, leading fire projects and teams at senior levels, assisting in bidding and fee proposal development, and mentoring junior staff and graduates to support their professional growth. Career progression towards senior leadership and director roles is encouraged and supported.

Join Arcadis to make a meaningful impact by delivering sustainable solutions for a more prosperous planet and create a lasting legacy through your work.
