About the Role
Southwark Council offers a unique opportunity to lead Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, one of the borough’s flagship leisure facilities located at the heart of the Peckham community. This centre has recently benefited from significant investment, including a brand-new gym with state-of-the-art equipment, two new fitness studios, a full upgrade of existing equipment, and the installation of Solar PV panels to improve energy efficiency and support the borough’s climate commitments.
As General Manager, you will be responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe operation of the centre. You will lead and motivate a team to deliver exceptional customer experiences while meeting ambitious financial and operational targets. Your role will involve managing the day-to-day running of the centre, ensuring it remains safe, clean, and welcoming for all users.
With the wider Peckham Square and High Street area undergoing significant regeneration, you will align the centre’s strategic direction with these developments, identifying opportunities for growth and partnership. You will develop business plans and operational strategies that balance community needs with commercial viability, manage budgets, analyse financial performance, and drive operational efficiencies.
You will also handle customer feedback and complaints professionally, promote continuous improvement, support achievement of accreditations such as Quest, and ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and health & safety standards.
This is a dynamic, hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational knowledge, commercial awareness, and a genuine commitment to community engagement. You will play a key role in shaping the future of community leisure in one of London’s most vibrant boroughs.
