About the Role
The post holder will teach courses within the SEND department, both onsite and occasionally in community settings. They will ensure high-quality delivery through the implementation of Quality Assurance processes and contribute to the College’s growth by supporting a vibrant curriculum and improving learner outcomes. The role also involves assisting with focused curriculum development, personalised employment support, and learner progression.

The post holder will support the College’s strategic goals, particularly targeting priority groups under the Adult Skills Fund, and collaborate with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to deliver a high-quality programme aligned with learner and employer needs.

The allocation of hours is outlined in the job advert and may be subject to change depending on business needs.

Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking a teaching commitment for the work offered and ensuring availability for this work to provide learners with a continuous learning experience and minimal disruption.
- Planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating all courses, considering exams and internal college syllabi and processes.
- Delivering stimulating and engaging sessions aligned with the current Scheme of Learning and course specifications.
- Setting high expectations for learners from the start, embedding college and course expectations, British Values, and life skills.
- Managing the learning process effectively by guiding and supporting learners, differentiating teaching to meet diverse needs, and ensuring appropriate challenge and support.
- Uploading all relevant teaching, learning and assessment materials to the virtual learning environment, keeping them up to date and aligned with unit delivery.
- Maintaining accurate learner, group and progress tracking documents, including attendance and punctuality records.
- Setting challenging teaching and learning objectives relevant to course intent and learner development.
- Agreeing individual learning plans with learners, setting and monitoring SMART targets, and providing meaningful feedback.
- Systematically assessing learners’ work and providing timely, developmental feedback.
- Encouraging learners to reflect on and improve their own performance.
- Providing subject specialist advice and support, including progression guidance and referrals to careers teams.
- Identifying and planning additional support for learners in liaison with the learning support team.
- Collaborating with exams and curriculum support teams to ensure accurate records, exam registrations and schedules.
- Planning opportunities for learners to experience out-of-classroom contexts such as placements, volunteering, and visits.
- Supporting the development of exciting programmes to help learners gain new skills, qualifications and knowledge.
- Assisting the college marketing team by participating in key events and promoting courses.
- Writing detailed and accurate course outlines to support department and college promotion.
- Conducting interviews and initial/diagnostic assessments for potential learners.
- Attending and contributing to departmental, college and external meetings as required.
- Keeping up to date with assessments, examinations, and related records.
- Undertaking mandatory training in Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent and Data Protection/GDPR.
- Complying with Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers and college policies.
- Taking responsibility for Health & Safety in own work area.
- Proactively managing own professional development.
- Supporting the improvement, growth and sustainability of the College.
- Undertaking other duties commensurate with the grade as reasonably required.

Experience
- Experience of teaching in Adult Education or Further Education post-16 college or training environment.
- Experience teaching a range of levels up to GCSE English/Maths, including preparation for GCSE and functional skills.
- Experience of quality improvement processes that support and develop practice.

Qualifications
- An appropriate teaching qualification for the Post-16 sector (e.g. DET / Cert. Ed. or equivalent) and/or willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification within the first year of appointment.
- A qualification in the subject specialism to at least Level 4 (e.g. HND, First Degree), or in-depth knowledge with a minimum of 3 years’ substantial experience teaching English/Maths.
- Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics.
- A1 Assessors qualification or equivalent.
- V1 Verifiers qualification or equivalent.
