About the Role
The Contracting department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust plays a vital role in liaising with Commissioners and partner organisations including Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS England (NHSE), and Local Authorities. The team ensures the Trust’s strategy and interests are fully represented and leads on negotiating and performance managing contracts to deliver NHS clinical services. The Trust manages a complex portfolio across multiple commissioner organisations, generating NHS income of over £2.5 billion covering most of England and Wales.
The department communicates Commissioners’ strategies and views to the Trust’s Clinical Groups, while the Contract Data and Analytics team supports both Clinical Groups and corporate departments and services external stakeholders such as ICBs and NHSE.
Working closely with Finance, Information teams, and Clinical Groups, the department monitors and reports income and patient-related activity against annual plans.
As Head of Contract Management and Reporting, you will support the Associate Director in managing the main NHS Contract and take responsibility for negotiating, managing, and developing contracts across your own portfolio of Commissioners. You will lead the Contract Data and Analytics function, overseeing report production and the monthly data validation process. This role requires a sound knowledge of NHS commissioning processes and strong attention to detail.
You will collaborate with Clinical Groups and senior Trust management to achieve long-term financial objectives and model resources to support future developments. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, alongside a thorough understanding of NHS commissioning and the NHS Payments Scheme.

Experience
- Extensive experience within the NHS, including commissioning, contracting, and service provision
- Substantial experience managing a Contracts function in a large acute NHS Trust or equivalent
- Proven history of staff management and team development
- Detailed knowledge of the NHS Standard Acute Contract and NHS Payment Scheme
- Desirable: Experience in strategic and staff leadership roles within Finance or Strategy
- Desirable: Experience managing large or pan-organisational projects
- Desirable: Strong understanding of integrated service planning across complex organisations
Qualifications
- Essential: Master's Degree or equivalent qualification/experience
- Desirable: Evidence of ongoing professional development in leadership skills
Skills
- Strong verbal communication skills with confidence in presentations and public speaking
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to produce and present highly complex financial and non-financial reports to clinicians, managers, senior executives, and Trust Committees independently
