Central London with occasional travel to London and other sites nationally.

Hours
Full time. Part-time requests will be considered at a minimum of 30 hours per week. Flexible working will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Salary
£58,511 per annum plus an additional allowance of up to £16,907 subject to Government Digital and Data (GDD) assessment. Civil Service pension scheme included.

About the Role
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. This role supports the delivery of justice by contributing directly to HMCTS’s ambitious Data Strategy, which aims to modernise and enhance data capabilities across the organisation.

The Lead Analytics Engineer will be based within the Data Management and Engineering team, responsible for holding, curating, and protecting data to drive organisational value now and in the future. You will lead and manage a team of data engineering professionals to deliver business-as-usual data, reporting, and analytics outputs.

Key responsibilities include ensuring operational data from case management systems is effectively shared and utilised, collaborating with data analysts and scientists to automate reporting processes, communicating delivery plans to stakeholders, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency, deploying and managing resources to support strategic data transformation, developing new technologies to enhance data management, maintaining comprehensive documentation, leading the development of robust data models, ensuring data process scalability and reliability, and establishing a strong data quality assurance framework.

This role plays a pivotal part in enabling evidence-based decision-making through the provision of reliable, accurate, and trusted data, supporting senior leaders across the business to make strategic, data-driven decisions.

Requirements

Experience
- Leading and developing data engineering or technical teams, managing priorities, resources, and business-as-usual delivery.
- Designing and managing data models, ETL processes, and data integration solutions.
- Advanced SQL and relational database skills (e.g. Oracle, PL/SQL, SQL Server, T-SQL).
- Delivering automated data, reporting, and analytics solutions to improve efficiency and business outcomes.
- Implementing and overseeing data quality, assurance, and governance processes.
- Working with a range of stakeholders to define requirements and deliver data solutions.
- Maintaining data documentation including data lineage, metadata, and data dictionaries.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, and data management best practices.
- Experience with Python, Spark, or other programming and scripting languages.
- Developing cloud-based data solutions using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, Git repositories, and automated deployment practices.
- Driving data transformation, automation, or modernisation initiatives.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or Trello.
