About the Role
We are seeking Licensing Assistants to support the Council’s Private Sector Housing enforcement and licensing functions. The borough also operates an Additional Licensing scheme to complement Mandatory HMO Licensing.
The appointed Licensing Assistants will provide administrative, office, and where necessary, fieldwork support within the Neighbourhoods and Environment Directorate. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and flexibility in working patterns and practices. Successful candidates will play a central role in delivering licensing objectives and supporting top quality regulatory services.
Key responsibilities include providing a professional, proactive, customer-focused support service within the Private Sector Housing & Licensing Team, processing Private Rented Property Licensing applications and associated matters, assisting with administrative functions including data entry and arranging/attending public inquiries or hearings, liaising with compliance and enforcement teams as well as landlords and tenants, and representing the team at internal and external meetings including minute taking.
Experience
Demonstrable commitment to delivering high-quality regulatory services is essential. Experience in administrative or customer service roles within a regulatory or housing environment would be advantageous but is not explicitly required.

Motivated and dedicated individual with excellent communication skills and flexibility in working patterns. You should be able to work professionally both independently and as part of a team, with a strong customer focus and attention to detail.
Qualifications

Relevant NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification is essential.
Additional requirements include satisfactory employment references and CIFAS identity checks. Fluency in spoken English is required to effectively perform the role, though this does not necessitate specific language qualifications or accents.
