About the Role
As a Licensing Enforcement Officer, you will undertake the Council’s statutory functions relating to the enforcement of Private Sector Housing and Licensing. Your role will involve ensuring compliance with relevant codes of practice, guidance, and legislation. You will manage a caseload responsible for processing, assessment, and enforcement in relation to Property Licensing, aiming to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve standards in the private sector.
Key duties include providing advice, conducting detailed inspection audits, and taking necessary enforcement actions under the relevant Housing Acts and related legislation. As a front-line field officer, you will actively contribute to the Directorate’s commercialisation programme and income generation, identifying and developing innovative commercial opportunities during your day-to-day interactions with residents, businesses, and other service areas.
This is a fixed-term maternity cover position for 12 months, with the possibility of contract duration changes depending on the incumbent’s return to work. Please note that this role does not offer Skilled Worker visa sponsorship; applicants must already hold UK work authorisation that does not require sponsorship.
Experience
Experience in enforcing legislation and conducting Property Licensing inspections and enforcement actions is essential. Ability to represent the Council at inquiries, courts, and tribunals to present evidence is required. Experience working out of office hours, including early appointments and evening visits, is expected.
About You
You will be confident in travelling within the Borough as part of your duties and able to work flexibly, including out-of-hours site visits and attendance at meetings. You should be proactive, with strong communication skills to conduct training for staff and official visitors on the service functions.
Qualifications
English and Math qualifications are required, along with a relevant NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification. A qualification relevant to the job role is desirable. Excellent knowledge and application of IT systems and software packages is essential.
