About the Role
This role is a non-operational instructor position within a secure establishment. The primary responsibility is to instruct and train prisoners in Motor Mechanics, supporting their development towards industry-recognised accreditations such as National Vocational Qualification levels 1 and 2. The role involves building effective, supportive relationships with prisoners, managing them proactively, and promoting the decency agenda to contribute to sentence planning and reducing reoffending. You will deliver training covering health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tool usage, and tailor learning to individual prisoner needs. The role requires maintaining learner records, assessing skills, liaising with Learning and Skills staff, and ensuring compliance with awarding body standards. Additional duties include supervising prisoner discipline, completing relevant reports, conducting risk assessments, ordering materials, and supporting prisoners’ resettlement by advising on career opportunities. The post holder must maintain high standards of security, productivity, good order, and hygiene within workshop areas, and comply with national and local security policies. This is a non-rotational role with no line management responsibilities.
Experience
Basic knowledge of how a car works, including 4 stroke and diesel engines and braking systems. Understanding of the accreditation process including the Qualification and Credit Framework.

Qualifications
Relevant vocational qualifications or experience in Motor Mechanics are desirable. Experience in delivering training or instruction is advantageous. Knowledge of Health and Safety, COSHH, and workshop safety procedures is essential.
