Operational Support Grade - HMP Brixton (Prison Support Role)

Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week on a rolling shift pattern including nights, evenings, weekends, and Bank/Public holidays. Shift start and finish times are fixed and punctuality is essential.
Salary
£35,483 per annum (inclusive of 20% unsocial hours allowance for night, evening, and weekend shifts)
About the Role
As part of the prison support team at HMP Brixton, you will play a vital role in keeping the prison running smoothly and safely. This active role involves a variety of physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, standing, and walking for extended periods. You will work both day and night shifts, sometimes working alone while performing your duties. Driving duties are an essential part of this role, so a full, valid driving licence is required.
Your responsibilities may include gate duties such as securing entry and exit of staff, visitors, and vehicles, carrying out searches, patrolling the prison site, and issuing keys and radios. You will also operate the control room radio system, monitor CCTV, welcome and escort visitors, manage correspondence and mail, supervise prisoners, deliver food, and transport prisoners and mail as required.
You will receive full training and support from a dedicated team. The role requires good judgement, common sense, responsibility, and strong teamwork skills. You will be expected to understand and follow national and local policies and respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies.
Experience
No prior experience or qualifications are required. Full training will be provided to support you in this role.
About you
You should be physically fit and able to undertake active and varied tasks including lifting and long periods of standing and walking. You must be responsible, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Good judgement, common sense, and the ability to follow procedures are essential. A full, valid driving licence is mandatory due to driving duties involved in the role.
