About the Role
Tower Hamlets is seeking a dynamic Operations Fleet Compliance Officer to join the Waste Services team. You will be responsible for managing the vehicle fleet and ensuring full compliance with statutory Operator’s Licence requirements. Working closely with the Council’s Corporate Fleet Manager, you will oversee scheduling of maintenance, coordinate repairs, guarantee safety standards, and maintain detailed records of each vehicle’s condition, history, and usage.
You will manage a Transport Co-Ordinator and together provide expert insight to ensure the availability and safe, efficient use of the Waste Services’ fleet, delivering excellent service borough-wide.
Your role will also include managing the introduction of new vehicles such as underground refuse storage collection vehicles, mechanical sweepers, and electric vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and track regular vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs
- Audit vehicle repair and maintenance records, assess cost-effectiveness, and identify safety or misuse issues
- Maintain fleet and driver administrative procedures and records in line with policies and statutory requirements
- Manage driver assessments, training, and licence checks
- Train and assess drivers from non-LGV to LGV levels, including specialist equipment
- Maintain strong relationships with vehicle service providers and suppliers
- Assist with vehicle specification compilation to support procurement of new vehicles

Experience
- Proven experience in Transport Compliance or Fleet Management, preferably within the waste industry
- Strong understanding of UK transport regulations including driver hours, tachograph requirements, vehicle inspections, and safety standards
- Knowledge of Waste Operations services and operational fleet availability and servicing requirements

Qualifications
- Valid full LGV driving licence (Category C)
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport Management or commitment to achieve within one year of appointment
