About the Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our Food Safety and Health & Safety Team. As an Officer with delegated authority and competency, you will carry out a programme of proactive and reactive functions to ensure compliance with food hygiene legislation within the Borough. Your responsibilities will include using delegated powers to maintain food hygiene standards in businesses for the benefit of residents, visitors, and workers in the Borough. You will take on additional duties such as formal closures of food businesses, approval of premises under Assimilated Regulations (EC) 853/2004, and lead on internal projects.
The role involves investigating service requests, conducting proactive inspections, leading projects including sampling and approvals, issuing notices, preparing legal proceedings, and supporting junior officers. You will also attend outdoor events and assist field staff from Food & Health and Safety teams by providing guidance as necessary. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and dedicated individual to help deliver key strategic objectives within the Borough.

Experience
- Experience in Environmental Health roles, ideally including leading on legal casework, sampling programmes, approval of premises, mentoring, and supervision.
- Proven ability to investigate service requests, conduct inspections, issue notices, and prepare legal proceedings.
- Experience working collaboratively within diverse communities.

Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health.
- Registered Environmental Health Practitioner holding an EHRB certificate of registration or equivalent.
- Maintenance and proof of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
