About the Role
As a Planning Manager, you will be responsible for the planning function within projects, programmes, or portfolios, working closely with stakeholders to resource, manage, and assure projects and programmes. You will ensure visibility and alignment of programmes with business plans and Performance Commitments throughout the project lifecycle. This role is based in the Roads sector, focusing on producing tender, design, and preparation for construction programmes prior to site works commencing.
You will provide visible and effective leadership, potentially leading the planning team and collaborating with the project/programme manager to deliver business case benefits and outcomes. Defining the planner resource strategy, supporting recruitment, and overseeing planner development will be key responsibilities. You will also oversee integration with the project controls team to maintain alignment between financial positions and project/programme plans.
Championing best practice in planning and reporting, you will develop clear vision and standards, build strong internal and external networks, and work with senior management to ensure the programme accurately reflects the project status. Reviewing performance data to identify improvement areas, providing quality assurance, conducting peer reviews, deep dives, and problem-solving will also form part of your role.
Experience
- Confidence managing teams and communicating at all levels to drive commitments and improvements
- Extensive training and experience with Primavera (P6)
- Proficient in Earned Value Analysis interpretation
- Experience interpreting estimating, scheduling, programming, and risk tools
- High numeracy and excellent analytical skills
- Excellent MS Office skills
About you

- Experience working in highly regulated environments preferred
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation relevant to the sector
- Roads sector experience desirable
- Familiarity with reporting tools such as Power BI and other planning software is advantageous
Qualifications
- Essential: HNC/HND, degree qualified or equivalent experience in a planning-related discipline
- Desirable: APM Project Management Qualification, APMG Managing Successful Programmes (foundation level), APMG International Project Planning and Control Practitioner or equivalent, PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)
