JOB TITLE: Principle C++ Engineer
SALARY: £100,657 to £118,420
LOCATION: London
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
About this opportunity
This role sits at the Digital Delivery & Strategy Lab, which belongs to the Channel Enabler Platforms division. However, this position will interact with multiple areas across Group CIO and CRSO (Chief Resilience and Security Office). The role supports 3 key areas: tech strategy, legacy infrastructure optimisation and engineering optimisation.
The role will involve:
Using your strong engineering expertise, C/C++ coding and DB2/SQL skills, your focus will be to help lead key Internet Banking initiatives such as core internet banking Foundation Servers re-engineering and tech strategy evolution.
You will guide and support our shared systems and development teams. As a highly qualified member of the wider Engineering team, working with our Technical Delivery Manager, we would look for you to demonstrate and apply exemplary software engineering practices and skills in addition to mentoring our more junior team members and providing consultancy to various development project teams within Digital.
You will also be involved in owning, supporting and streamlining standards and processes to be more agile, to define/refine working practices as the team evolves.

What you'll need
Strong understanding of legacy technology (Foundations servers, Mainframes, DB etc)
C/C++, shell scripting, IHS, build frameworks, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Git and knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services.
Deep understanding of C coding, SQL (DB2), UNIX (AIX/Linux), multi-threading, containerisation and low latency systems.
Strong knowledge of the entire software development lifecycle from inception, through build and test to production.
An eye for detail and meticulous approach to review processes.
Passion for coaching other engineers and building a strong team culture.
Courage to challenge the status quo and to come up with new and innovative ideas.
Confidence to express own opinions and be pragmatic about modifying them when they are appropriate.
A "can-do" attitude, the ability to get involved with new projects during the analysis and early design phase to shape development approach.
Ability to effectively work with multi-disciplinary, internal and external distributed teams across the project lifecycle.
Excellent application and database design principles knowledge.
Understanding of source code repositories and change management tools, particularly Git/Github.
Provide assistance to the Production Support team, investigating and fixing live issues.
