Location
102 Petty France, London SW1H 9AG. This position is eligible for hybrid working. All full-time staff are expected to attend the London office at least 2 days a week. This hybrid working arrangement is not contractual and staff may be asked to attend more frequently.

Hours
Full-time with flexible working patterns available, including the option to job share. The Law Commission operates flexible working arrangements such as a flexi-time scheme and compressed hours, subject to business needs.

Salary
This role is graded at Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Grade with a starting salary of £40,014. Higher starting salaries may be considered in exceptional circumstances. The Ministry of Justice also contributes £11,592 towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

About the Role
The Law Commission is recruiting a permanent HEO Publications Officer within the Communications team, part of the Corporate Services Team. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in producing well-designed, accessible, and high-quality documents. You will be the central expert for publication production across the Law Commission's project teams, managing the full production lifecycle from finished text to final printed or digital product. You will work closely with external designers, translators, and printers to deliver publications on time, within budget, and to brand and accessibility standards.

The Law Commission produces a wide range of publications including reports, consultation papers, and summaries, each with unique timelines and format requirements. You will guide colleagues confidently through these processes, ensuring all publications meet high standards and procedural requirements, especially for those laid before Parliament.

You will maintain strong relationships with the Ministry of Justice Parliamentary team and their printers to ensure accuracy and compliance. There is scope to review and improve internal guidance and production processes.

While primarily focused on publications, the role offers opportunities to engage with wider communications activities including digital, media, press relations, and communications in Wales.

This varied and collaborative role requires strong organisational skills, sound judgement, and a working knowledge of design and print production processes.

Requirements

Experience
- Project or account management experience in publishing, communications, or creative production environments.
- Demonstrable knowledge of publication production processes, including working with designers, printers, and translators.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.

Qualifications and Desirable Criteria

- Background in legal, policy, or research environments is advantageous.
- Awareness of artificial intelligence and its potential to improve processes.
