Hours
Full time – 37 hours per week, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with on call responsibilities and expectations to support the needs of the home

Salary
£55,000 per annum (salary may be exceeded for an exceptional candidate) plus £1,200 on call allowance – 1 in 3 weeks

About the Role
Join Action for Children and the London Borough of Hackney as the Registered Manager for a new 2-bedroom trauma-informed therapeutic children’s home in London Fields, Hackney. This exciting development aims to provide stable, safe, and loving homes enabling children and young people to remain in Hackney, supported to grow up happy and maintain important relationships.

This role involves leading the development and launch of the children’s home, building and managing a dynamic team, and securing OFSTED registration. You will set values and principles aligned with national standards, Ofsted requirements, and the partnership with Hackney Borough Council.

You will prioritise psychological safety, empathy, and relationship building, delivering high-quality care that achieves positive outcomes for children and young people. Ensuring children feel physically and psychologically safe and empowered is central to this role. You will also liaise with stakeholders, the community, and other agencies to support the home’s success.

This is more than a management role; it is an opportunity to create a home that truly belongs to its children, providing nurturing care tailored to their unique needs.

Requirements

Experience
Proven management experience in trauma-informed children’s residential care
Experience working with children at risk of criminal exploitation and sexual abuse
Demonstrated track record of Good or Outstanding OFSTED ratings in leadership roles within children’s homes

About you
Committed to supporting Hackney’s Children and Families Service and Action for Children’s anti-racism and equity commitments
Understanding of the cultural, societal, and ideological forces shaping child development
Ability to provide a contained and fulfilling environment for staff, promoting psychological safety and building a resilient team

Qualifications
Level 5 qualification such as Diploma in Leadership and Management of Residential Childcare or equivalent
DBS Enhanced Adult & Children clearance required
