About the Role
Ealing Council is proud to be recognised as a Borough of Sanctuary, welcoming people affected by forced migration and offering safety, inclusion and belonging. Our borough is home to sanctuary seekers from diverse migration pathways including asylum, resettlement, Homes for Ukraine, and Hong Kong (BNO) arrivals. Each group brings unique experiences, skills and contributions that enrich our communities and strengthen the fabric of our borough.
In 2025, Ealing Council launched the Borough of Sanctuary Strategy, co-produced with residents and the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS). This strategy sets out a bold vision to embed principles of welcome, inclusion and opportunity across all council services. It is supported by action plans enhancing housing, community participation, health and wellbeing, employment and education to ensure sanctuary seekers receive coordinated and compassionate support.
As a Sanctuary Officer (Grade 10), you will play a key role in turning this strategy into action. Working within a small, dynamic Equalities and Engagement team, you will coordinate delivery of sanctuary action plans by tracking progress, supporting partnerships, managing logistics and ensuring commitments are met on time and within budget.
You will collaborate closely with council colleagues, VCFS partners and residents with lived experience to design and deliver inclusive programmes such as hotel drop-ins and the annual Ealing Sanctuary Forum. Additionally, you will prepare reports and data insights that inform decision-making and drive service improvements.
This is a fixed term role for 3 years. The Council is committed to being an open, transparent and inclusive organisation, improving engagement with local communities to ensure all voices are heard and residents have confidence in how change is managed.
If you are highly organised, collaborative and passionate about supporting people affected by forced migration, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a tangible difference while developing your skills in programme delivery and partnership working.
Experience
Experience in programme coordination, partnership working or community engagement is desirable. Experience working with people affected by forced migration or in a related sector is an advantage but not essential.
About you
You are passionate about inclusion, community empowerment and social justice. You have excellent organisational skills, are collaborative and able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including residents, voluntary sector partners and council teams. You are proactive, adaptable and committed to delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed timescales and budgets.
We especially encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of forced migration and those with language skills reflecting our community.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required, but relevant experience or education in community development, social work, public administration or related fields will be beneficial.
