Salary
£41,092 to £52,212 per annum depending on skills and experience. In addition, a flexible benefits fund of 15% is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, alongside a range of competitive benefits.
About the Role
As Security Design Manager, you will lead the security interface between the HS2 Railway Directorate and the HS2 supply chain, producing security design deliverables and providing Line of Defence (LOD) Level 2 assurance of these deliverables. You will act as a subject matter expert supporting HS2 and supply chain project teams to design a safe, technically integrated, and compliant future operational railway.
Your responsibilities include supporting the implementation of HMG standards and guidelines such as the DfT ‘Security in the Design of Stations’ Guide by aiding decision making, reviewing designs, and collaborating with Police CTSAs and DOCOs as appropriate. You will provide justifications and security design elements to the HS2 Security Steering Panel and Design Panel, contribute security input to the HS2 project-wide Hazard Record by analysing threats and compliance evidence, and support senior security leadership in maintaining cooperative relationships with DfT Land Security, Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI), and British Transport Police (BTP) to secure design approvals.
You will ensure that security designs and future security operations comply strictly with UK legislation and HS2 requirements. Promoting and embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work is essential, alongside supporting and complying with all organisational EDI initiatives, policies, and procedures.
Experience
- Experience of major rail infrastructure upgrade projects or similar scale projects, or consultancy experience producing assessments and deliverables for projects of HS2 scale and scope.
- Experience delivering evidence of security design within safety-critical environments such as aviation, rail, maritime, oil/gas, nuclear, or military sectors.
- Experience operating within a regulatory environment.
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders.
- Experience implementing and delivering security assurance processes.

Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in Security, Engineering, or a related subject, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of security design assurance principles and processes, preferably within a Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sector.
- Knowledge of physical security principles, standards, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of security systems, blast mitigation, and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) principles and products.
