£54,267 - £57,402 plus Market Supplement of up to £7,000 for the right candidate

About the Role
The London Borough of Newham is seeking a dedicated Senior Enforcement Lawyer (Private Sector Housing) to support the Private Sector Housing Department and the Homelessness Prevention Advice Service (HPAS). This role involves providing expert legal advice and representation primarily under the Housing Act 2004 and the Renters Rights Act 2025. You will handle a variety of enforcement matters including legal queries on housing law and procedure, advice on evidence for civil penalties, criminal regulatory prosecutions in Magistrates and Crown Courts, appeals of civil penalties in the First Tier Property Tribunal, and complex debt recovery cases.

The role offers varied and exciting work within a dynamic environment. The team operates from modern offices overlooking London City Airport with excellent transport links to central London. You will contribute to delivering high quality, solution-focused legal services and have the opportunity to attend and conduct hearings in Magistrates Court and the First Tier Property Tribunal.

Experience
Proven background in criminal regulatory law, ideally at a senior level. Experience in legal research using online resources and applying findings to practical situations. Experience in drafting clear, concise legal advice and briefs to counsel. Experience representing clients in Magistrates Court and First Tier Property Tribunal is desirable.

Qualifications
