About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen within the London Borough of Redbridge for an experienced Senior Property Lawyer to join the Council and provide a comprehensive and professional legal service on a fixed term basis. You will report to the Principal Lawyer – Property and Planning within the Legal Department and work closely with other Council departmental clients and specialist departments. Your role will involve providing expert advice on complex commercial property and regeneration work.

You will be responsible for providing expertise, advice, guidance, and practical assistance on local government law in all aspects of commercial and residential property law. You will manage complex residential property acquisition matters allocated to the Property and Planning Team and provide legal advice and support to departmental managers and officers. Acting as a legal advisor to client organisations on regeneration, commercial property, corporate, constitutional, and administrative matters will be key to ensuring compliance with statutory duties and protecting the best interests of the Council.

Additional responsibilities include preparing, negotiating, and advising on all aspects relating to regeneration projects and commercial property work, and deputising for the Principal Lawyer when required. This post is politically restricted.

Experience
Substantial experience of residential and commercial property transactions, preferably within a local government context. Significant experience preparing title reports and briefing officers in a Local Authority or similar organisation. Proven ability to conduct a caseload within your area of expertise without supervision. Excellent knowledge of property law and conveyancing transactions.

Qualifications
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, FILEX or equivalent legal qualification.
