About the Role
The London Borough of Newham is pioneering a new Family Hub model through a £4 million grant to improve integrated family support services. As a Specialist Baby Feeding Supporter, you will play a vital role in delivering infant feeding support to families across Newham, contributing to the Family Hubs Programme and supporting the achievement and maintenance of UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation.

You will provide expert guidance and support to parents antenatally and postnatally, promoting breastfeeding initiation, exclusivity, and duration, while supporting all infant feeding choices safely and responsively. Your work will include delivering workshops, supporting parents at Baby Feeding Cafes, and engaging with families through various communication methods such as video calls, phone, text, and email.

Working within the Health Visiting Service and the Newham Infant Feeding Team, you will collaborate closely with health visitors, maternity services, voluntary organisations, and other partners to ensure coordinated care and support. You will use a client-centred, counselling approach to help parents overcome infant feeding challenges, support maternal and infant mental health, and encourage healthy feeding practices including the introduction of solid foods.

Key responsibilities include supporting the Infant Feeding Coordinator with audits for Baby Friendly accreditation, arranging breastfeeding equipment loans, maintaining accurate records on electronic healthcare systems, and adhering to safeguarding and data protection policies.

This role requires a professional, compassionate individual committed to improving infant feeding outcomes and supporting families in a diverse community setting.

Experience
Experience in infant feeding support, health visiting, or a related health or community role is desirable. Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and with external partners is essential.

About you
You are compassionate, culturally sensitive, and skilled in communication and counselling. You demonstrate excellent listening skills and a strengths-based approach to empower parents. You are committed to continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of practice aligned with UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative and local policies.

You must be able to work flexibly across a 7-day rota, manage confidential information responsibly, and adhere to safeguarding and data protection procedures.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or training in infant feeding, health visiting, public health, or a related field are preferred. Mandatory training and ongoing professional development will be provided and required as part of the role.
