About the Role
The role of Student Community Public Health Nurse is a development post designed to build on your existing knowledge, skills and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice. This will result in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registrable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You will be employed by the London Borough of Sutton and work as part of the Sutton Health and Care Alliance (SHC), a partnership of key local health and care providers committed to delivering high quality health and social care for Sutton residents.

Your responsibilities will include assessing and reassessing care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating care programmes under supervision, managing a corporate caseload to develop managerial skills, delivering service activities to meet agreed standards, participating in health promotion aligned with Borough priorities, identifying and implementing service improvements, liaising with clients to review service requirements, and keeping up to date with policy and legislative changes.

You will also work within safeguarding policies to identify vulnerable children and contribute to interagency planning for children requiring statutory social services involvement, all under the supervision of a Specialist Practice Teacher.

The Sutton Health and Care (SHC) Alliance brings together local health and care providers including the Council, Epsom and St Helier’s NHS Trust, South West London and St Georges MH Trust, and the GP Federation. The Alliance delivers innovative, joined-up care services for Sutton residents, including the Sutton Health and Care at Home service launched in April 2018.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in nursing practice is expected as you will be building on existing knowledge and skills. You will be supervised and supported to develop managerial and clinical competencies.

About You
- Excellent communication skills including IT, written and oral
- Willingness to support management of change, development and working practice
- Knowledge of current legislation and national guidance
- Understanding of safeguarding processes, child protection procedures and clinical governance
- Ability to make decisions in safeguarding and clinical governance areas
- Ability to set personal objectives, manage time, priorities and stressful situations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with other agencies
- Must be a car owner/driver

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse and/or evidence of application for NMC registration with confirmed registration within 2 months of start date
- DipHE (or above) qualification equivalent to 120 credits at level 5 of the Higher Education Credit Framework for England, or evidence of equivalent prior education and learning

Note:
- Some universities accept 60 credits at level 5/6 with option for APEL (accreditation of prior experiential learning)
- For the postgraduate diploma route, a 2:1 Honours Degree is required (refer to candidate guidance for HEI details)
