About the Role
The post holder will teach courses within the SEND department, both onsite and at times in community settings. They will ensure high-quality delivery through the implementation of Quality Assurance processes and contribute to the College’s growth by supporting a vibrant curriculum and improving learner outcomes. The role also involves assisting with focused curriculum development, personalised employment support, and learner progression.

The post holder will help meet the College’s strategic goals, especially targeting priority groups under the Adult Skills Fund, and will collaborate with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to deliver a high-quality programme aligned with learner and employer needs.

The allocation of hours is outlined in the job advert and may be subject to change if business needs evolve.

Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking a teaching commitment for the work offered and ensuring availability for this work to provide learners with a continuous learning experience and minimal disruption.
- Planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating all courses, ensuring alignment with exams, internal college syllabi and processes.
- Delivering stimulating, engaging, and relevant sessions aligned to the current Scheme of Learning and course specifications.
- Setting high expectations for learners from the start, embedding college and course expectations, British Values, and life skills.
- Managing the learning process effectively by guiding and supporting learners, differentiating teaching to meet diverse needs and ensuring appropriate challenge and support.
- Uploading all relevant teaching, learning and assessment materials to the virtual learning environment, keeping resources up to date and aligned with unit delivery.
- Maintaining accurate learner, group and progress tracking documents, including attendance and punctuality registers.
- Setting challenging teaching and learning objectives relevant to course intent and learner development.
- Agreeing individual learning plans with learners, setting and monitoring SMART targets, and providing meaningful feedback.
- Systematically assessing learners’ work and providing timely, developmental written and verbal feedback.
- Encouraging learners to reflect on, evaluate and improve their own performance.
- Providing subject specialist information, advice and support, including progression advice and referrals to careers teams.
- Identifying, referring and planning additional support in liaison with the learning support team.
- Collaborating with exams, curriculum support and other teams to ensure accurate records, exam registrations and schedules.
- Planning out-of-classroom learning opportunities such as placements, volunteering, visits to libraries, museums and employment settings.
- Supporting the development of exciting programmes to help learners gain new skills, qualifications and knowledge aligned with personal goals and employment.
- Participating in college marketing events to promote courses to new learners and employers.
- Writing detailed and accurate course outlines for promotional purposes.
- Conducting interviews and initial/diagnostic assessments for new and existing learners.
- Attending and contributing to departmental, college and external meetings as required (meetings are paid separately at the set meeting rate).
- Keeping up to date with internal and external assessments and examinations, maintaining records and liaising with the Exams team.
- Undertaking and maintaining training in Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent and Data Protection/GDPR.
- Complying with Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training.
- Undertaking other duties commensurate with the post grade, supporting College priorities and management.
- Taking responsibility for Health & Safety within own work areas.
- Proactively managing own professional development in consultation with Line Manager.
- Adhering to all College policies including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
- Working flexibly and effectively as a team member to achieve department and College strategic targets.
- Supporting the improvement, growth and sustainability of the College.

Requirements

Experience
- Experience of teaching in Adult Education or Further Education post-16 college/training environment.
- Experience teaching a range of levels up to GCSE English/Maths, including preparation for GCSE and functional skills.
- Experience of quality improvement processes that support and develop practice.

Qualifications
- An appropriate teaching qualification for the Post 16 Sector (e.g. DET / Cert. Ed. or equivalent) and/or willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification within the first year of appointment.
- A qualification in the subject specialism to at least Level 4 (e.g. HND, 1st Degree), or in-depth knowledge with a minimum of 3 years’ substantial experience in teaching English/Maths.
- Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics.
- A1 Assessors qualification or equivalent.
- V1 Verifiers qualification or equivalent.
