About the Role
We are recruiting a Trading Standards Professional Apprentice to join the Trading Standards and Licensing Team within Regulatory Services, part of the Council's Public Protection and Integrated Enforcement Division. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience while completing a Level 6 Trading Standards Professional qualification through a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training.
As an apprentice, you will support the delivery of Trading Standards and Consumer Protection services by assisting with inspections, investigations, test purchasing, and enforcement activities. You will work under supervision to help officers with a variety of regulatory duties including inspections, providing advice, complaint investigations, interviews under caution, sampling, and court attendance. The role involves carrying out premises visits, including unaccompanied visits where appropriate, and using IT systems relevant to service delivery and training. You will also undertake administrative duties and work flexibly to meet service needs, including lone and potentially high-risk visits.
Experience
No prior professional experience required; however, a genuine interest in Trading Standards and consumer protection is essential.
About you
- You have or are forecast to achieve two A Level passes or equivalent in any subject.
- You hold GCSE English at grade 5 or above.
- You hold GCSE Maths at grade 4 or above.
- You hold one other GCSE subject at grade 4 or above.
- You have a basic understanding and interest in Trading Standards.
- You are familiar with IT methods and systems.
- You are well organised, reliable, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- You possess strong communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively within a diverse community.
- You are committed to achieving positive outcomes and maintaining high standards within agreed timescales.
Qualifications
Applicants must have or be forecast to achieve the following:

Successful completion of the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional apprenticeship qualification will be required during the course of employment.
