About the Role
During the two-year Training Contract, you will experience the challenging high-performance world of commercial law and gain the breadth of experience needed to emerge as a confident solicitor in England and Wales. You will complete four six-month rotations, exploring the firm's Global Product Groups. At least one seat will be in one of the following: Capital Markets, Debt Finance, Project Development & Finance, Restructuring & Insolvency, or Structured Finance. Opportunities may include international secondments, client secondments, or split seat secondments with the Disputes team and Pro Bono clients.

Throughout your Training Contract, you will develop legal and business skills, gain insight into high-profile clients, and enhance your commercial awareness. Tasks may include drafting and proofing documents, conducting due diligence, attending client meetings, preparing court documents, researching real estate titles and leases, creating data rooms for transactions, and potentially running smaller transactions independently.

You will receive specialised training at the start of each seat and be supported by a dedicated supervisor, the Early Talent Development team, Resource Manager, and Monitoring Partner. You will also have access to the Clifford Chance Academy, a leading in-house learning and development facility.

Experience
No specific prior legal experience is required. However, you must demonstrate business awareness, problem-solving skills with commercial insight, and the ability to identify legal and business issues. You should have an inquisitive mind and be able to articulate and apply knowledge creatively and solution-focused.

You will need strong oral and written communication skills, leadership and collaboration abilities, and the capacity to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Reliability, responsiveness, and a proactive approach to work are essential.

Demonstrating a real desire to learn, ambition to progress, and pride in your work output is important. You should be able to take ownership of your work and seek feedback actively.

You have strong organisational skills and the ability to manage demanding deadlines. You possess a genuine interest in the role, the firm, and its clients, understanding how this aligns with your skillset and career ambitions.

Qualifications
The Training Contract is open to penultimate year law students, final year law and non-law students, and graduates. You must be eligible to start your Training Contract in August 2029 and/or February 2030.

You must have achieved or be on track to achieve a 2:1 or above in your undergraduate degree. If applying for the London Training Contract without an England and Wales qualifying law degree, you will need to complete the PGDL prior to joining. Scots or Irish law students may be required to complete elements of the PGDL.

All Future Trainees must complete the SQE prior to joining, regardless of LPC completion. Those who have completed the SQE must complete the Clifford Chance Plus Programme, a bespoke course designed with the University of Law. Both PGDL and SQE are funded by Clifford Chance, with a maintenance grant provided during studies.

If you have completed the PGDL, you must have achieved a commendation (60% or more) overall and passed all modules at first attempt. If you have completed the SQE, you must have passed all modules at first attempt.
