About the Role
Join Connect Plus Services as a Tunnel Maintenance Civil Operative and play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of tunnels and pumping stations across the M25 network and its associated spur roads. In this hands-on operational role, you will support the Tunnel Maintenance Supervisor and Manager in delivering planned and reactive maintenance activities. You will contribute to the day-to-day upkeep of critical infrastructure, ensuring that tunnels, assets, and associated systems are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance.
This role is suited to a practical and safety-focused individual who enjoys working in a dynamic operational environment and contributing directly to the performance of a nationally significant road network. You will oversee the correct operation of tunnel vehicles when used by appointed agency drivers, ensuring all required checks are completed before and after use. You will also drive tunnel vehicles during planned closures or reactive incidents and assist Tunnel Maintenance Technicians with inspections, repairs, and general upkeep of tunnel and pumping station assets.
Responsibilities include completing daily worksheets, maintenance reports, drive-through sheets, and vehicle checks with accuracy and timeliness. You will observe all safety procedures with a strong focus on Zero Harm, provide escort and supervision to subcontractors ensuring compliance with site rules and safety standards, and carry out manual, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks across a range of trades under the direction of the Tunnel Maintenance Supervisor.
Additionally, you will support wider business objectives including sustainability initiatives and undertake any reasonable duties within your capability as directed by line management.
Experience
Broad experience of tunnel maintenance regimes and a good understanding of current health and safety legislation. Experience working in high-risk operational environments is beneficial.
About you
A practical, safety-focused individual with strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure. You will communicate clearly at all levels and work collaboratively within a complex operational structure. You are a reliable team player with a thorough and organised working style.
Qualifications
Relevant operational and safety qualifications including IPAF certification for MEWPs and booms, confined space training, and a valid CSCS Safety Card or equivalent. A full clean UK driving licence is essential. Applicants holding HGV Class 1 or 2 licences and a valid CPC Driver Card will be particularly well regarded. You must be capable of operating Connect Plus Services vehicles in line with company policies and undertaking additional training to meet sector scheme requirements, including Sector 22.
