About the Role
An exciting opportunity to join Brent Council as an Advisory Teacher for Children and Young People with a Vision Impairment. Brent is a vibrant London borough known for its cultural diversity and dynamic community. The Vision Impairment Service is committed to meeting the needs and reducing barriers faced by children and young people with vision impairments, while also supporting their families and educational professionals.
This role involves working with children in both primary and secondary settings. Experience in teaching Braille is desirable, but applications are welcome from all teachers interested in supporting children with vision impairments. The post-holder will contribute to training educational staff and influencing best practices to help children and young people fulfil their potential.
A mandatory qualification in vision impairment or multi-sensory impairment is desirable, but support will be provided for an experienced and committed teacher wishing to train for the mandatory qualification (QTVI). Experience
Extensive experience in teaching children with special educational needs is essential. Experience working with children with vision impairments or multi-sensory impairments is highly desirable.
About you
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their potential. You must be empathetic towards parents and able to provide practical support. The ability to train and influence educational staff in their practice is required. Commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to study for the mandatory QTVI qualification if not already held is important.
Qualifications
A mandatory qualification to teach visually impaired or multi-sensory impaired children is desirable. However, support will be offered to experienced teachers willing to undertake this qualification (QTVI).
