About the Role
We are looking for a technically strong Engineer to join our Analytics Implementation team at Sainsbury's. You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Marketing teams to translate measurement requirements into data layer specifications and consent-aware tracking. This role supports high-traffic retail websites and mobile applications and focuses on digital analytics implementation rather than reporting analysis or general front-end development. You will translate measurement requirements into data layer specifications, work with Engineering teams to implement them, configure client-side and server-side tags using Tealium iQ and Tealium EventStream, and maintain Adobe Analytics configurations. Additionally, you will validate consent-aware tracking, investigate tracking defects, and participate in peer reviews of tracking changes and code.

At Sainsbury's, you will experience a modern software engineering environment with a focus on Agile, Scrum, and XP methodologies. You will have exciting opportunities to work across technologies including AI and reusable tech, contributing to a team that powers one of the nation’s largest retail platforms.

Benefits
Sainsbury's offers a comprehensive benefits package including colleague discounts (starting at 10% and increasing periodically), pension scheme, life cover, performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, annual holiday allowance with the option to buy additional leave, season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, salary advance, and access to a wide range of retailer discounts. Employee wellbeing is supported through an employee assistance programme and generous parental leave policies including up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.

Requirements

Experience
- Strong JavaScript skills including reading, writing, debugging, and maintaining reusable code.
- Hands-on tracking implementation experience with at least one analytics platform such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics.
- Proven experience translating measurement requirements into data layer specifications.
- Commercial experience with tag management platforms such as Tealium iQ or Google Tag Manager.
- Proficient in debugging and validating tracking using browser developer tools including network requests and breakpoints.
- Understanding of customer behaviour data collection in modern web and mobile applications, including single-page applications.
- Knowledge of consent-aware tracking.
- Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About you
You are a technically adept engineer who enjoys working collaboratively across teams. You have a keen eye for detail and a passion for ensuring data quality and accuracy. You thrive in an Agile environment and are eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies. You value clear communication and are comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not mandated, strong hands-on experience with JavaScript, analytics platforms, and tag management systems is essential. Familiarity with the following is desirable:
- Tealium iQ and EventStream including server-side tracking
- Adobe Analytics implementation and configuration
- Third-party tag management
- Consent management platforms such as OneTrust
- Mobile app tracking with Adobe or Tealium mobile SDKs
- Tracking Next.js applications
- Automated testing of tracking
