St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. Job overview The post is based in the York Road Education Centre with the requirement to travel to St Thomas’ and Guys Hospitals as necessary. The team is a small and dynamic team working across all Clinical Groups to innovate and improve services, transforming health services to be fit for the future. Working closely with the Apollo Programme teams, the post holder will be working directly with services to optimise the Patient Portal ‘MyChart’. Functions include but are not limited to Clinician Initiated Messaging to patients and ‘Ticket’ Scheduling which allows patients to choose their own clinic appointment slot online. There are many additional exciting future developments and the post holder will work with the Ambulatory and Outpatient Transformation Programme and Apollo Programme Leads to ensure the benefits are realised for the Organisation and population we serve. Working within Ambulatory and Outpatient Transformation the post holder will be assigned specific workstreams to project manage and support as part of the wider programme presently these may include Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU), Referral Simplification, Remote Monitoring, Questionnaires, Virtual Consultations, Direct Access and Patient Stratification. The role is pivotal to the success of the Programme and will support the team to respond to the needs of the organisation and to proactively enable the services to achieve their local and national targets. Main duties of the job The post-holder is responsible for providing project management and support to ensure outputs are delivered effectively. The post holder will take a lead on specific projects or aspects of a project. With responsibility for day-to-day delivery, and subsequent performance management, adjusting plans as required to ensure that risks and issues are mitigated. The post holder will work with clinicians and managers to ensure provision of the best possible patient experience and service delivery. The post holder will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective management of interdependencies and delivery of objectives. It is expected that the specific projects managed by the post holder will change over time as the portfolio of work changes. Person specification Education / Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to masters level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. Formal qualification / working towards a formal qualification in Project management (PRINCE 2) at practitioner level or equivalent experience. Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development. Desirable criteria Understanding of lean methodology Experience Essential criteria Evidence of managing successful project and / or operational performance and improvement; including the development and monitoring of output and outcome measures. Project management experience in managing specific services including design, development, implementation and management of change in a multi-professional environment. Experience of managing complex budgets from a range of income sources and demonstrable evidence of individual, team, financial, process and change management. Desirable criteria Knowledge and understanding of the changing NHS environment, strategy, and policy agendas.
