Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Gynae Oncology department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust for an Assistant Service Manager working full time (37.5hrs per week). We are looking for someone with a proven track record in managing a busy, fast-paced operational service and demanding environment with experience in staff management including HR processes and policies and excellent data management and analytical skills. The role is ideal for candidates that are looking for a challenge and an opportunity to make a positive and impactful contribution to the service. The successful post holder will line manage a team of administrators, as well as having oversight of a wider team. We are looking for someone whom has a focus on patient outcomes and patient experience to support with developing the service. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the admin team and will also work closely the service management team to ensure smooth and efficient running of the service for patients. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Line Management including team meetings, 1:1s, PDRs Planning for and oversight of day-to-day operations of outpatient and inpatient services Anticipate challenges and implement solutions to minimise disruptions to the service Monitor demand and capacity and ensuring efficient utilisation Patient Pathway Management, validation and cancer assurance Responding to RADARs, PALS queries and patients concerns Data quality monitoring, analysis and performance reporting Participation in service improvement and development Deputising for the Service Manager where appropriate The candidate will need to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless service operation. They will therefore need be an excellent communicator to be able to liaise with multidisciplinary teams and patients. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The Successful applicant must be able to lead by example and motivate teams with a high degree of self-motivation, preferably with experience in people management. The post holder must have high attention to detail, be IT literate, including excel, and have the ability to navigate trust IT systems. The ideal candidate should have some understanding of National cancer waiting targets, experience in RTT and PTL validation. The successful candidate will be adaptable, have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. The ability to multi task and use initiative in a busy environment is essential. The post holder is expected to take a proactive approach to addressing targets and deadlines, addressing any issues impacting on service delivery, all whilst ensuring the smooth running of the service in a busy environment.
