About the Role
This is a wonderful opportunity to join the waste management team at Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust and be part of a team with increased emphasis on Sustainability and Innovation. The role will support the Trust Waste Manager in achieving targets set out both internally and externally through NHSE and other outside agencies. You will assist in managing contracts with suppliers and the in-house Waste Management team at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals.
Main Duties
- Assist the Trust Waste Manager in ensuring that all waste streams are correctly segregated, collected, stored, and transported in a safe manner and in accordance with relevant guidance and legislation.
- Support the Trust Waste Manager with contracted suppliers in line with their KPIs.
- Stay informed about new innovations within the waste industry to introduce changes that will assist the Trust in achieving its sustainability goals.
- Undertake internal audits of all areas (both clinical and non-clinical) to ensure proper waste segregation.
- Assist in delivering training to staff of all levels and disciplines.
- Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to effect changes in processes.
- Assist the Trust Waste Manager with the management of Pest Control.
Experience
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in management of waste, utilities, and environmental issues.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze problems and develop practical solutions.
- Experience in internal audit processes.
About You
Knowledge and understanding of the NHS and the challenges it faces is desirable. Awareness of sustainability issues facing the UK and in the NHS in general is also beneficial.
Qualifications
- Diploma level or equivalent experience in Waste Management (CIWM etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in management of waste, utilities, and environmental issues.
- Understanding of General Waste Regulations (e.g., WEEE, Safe Management of Healthcare Waste) is desirable.
- Evidence of continued learning/personal development including in sustainable waste management.
Skills & Competencies
- Able to prioritize and organize own work and others.
- Knowledge of CQC requirements relative to Waste Management.
- Good demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral in English.
- Self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Able to work to strict time constraints.
