Job overview An exciting key leadership opportunity has arisen within the finance team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The role reports to the Operational Finance Director and holds full responsibility for reporting the Trusts I&E position; total turnover of ~£2.8bn in 2022/23. The post-holder will work closely with the Trusts Heads of Finance to ensure the accuracy of the Trusts finances and to agree appropriate measures to rectify financial performance where required. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to the Trusts financial strategy and associated financial plans working closely with finance peers, the wider organisation and system colleagues. The post-holder will lead on the continuous improvement of financial information provided to all levels of the organisation, including retrospective reporting, and action-orientated proactive forecasting that supports the Trusts financial decision making. This is a high profile post integral to the success of the organisation. The post-holder is expected to work at a high level in the organisation demonstrating credibility with the Trust Directors, Senior Management Teams and Clinicians, and at a senior level with external bodies e.g., ICBs and NHS England. This is an exciting time to be joining Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS FT as we jointly (with Kings College Hospital) implement a single electronic health record across the Trust, the largest such implementation seen in the NHS. Detailed job description and main responsibilities This is a senior finance position that is responsible for providing specialist advice across the whole of the organisation to the Operational Finance Director, Chief Finance Officer and other Executive and Board colleagues. As the Trust expert to make recommendations and provide professional guidance and advice on the internal financial reporting requirements of the Trust. The post-holder is responsible for the development and implementation of all policies relating to internal financial reporting and the establishment of financial control mechanisms through these. To ensure that all resultant Trust policies and procedures are developed and implemented in line with Trust requirements. To be responsible for the development and production of reporting systems for both budgetary control, internal financial and workforce reporting and forecasting. To make recommendations that will ensure continual improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness in the provision of healthcare across the Trust. To be responsible for the completion of all mandatory financial returns that relate to this post. Person specification Previous experience Essential criteria Significant PQE experience preferably in a specialist Financial Management role Experience working at a strategic level, able to recognise direction and implications of policy Experience of implementing and running organisation-wide multi-specialty financial reporting systems. Experience leading on internal financial reporting and making recommendations to Board committees on new developments and service improvements. Significant experience of managing, motivating and developing large teams and able to lead teams to achieve common objectives. Qualifications Essential criteria Completion of a CCAB / CIMA recognised accountancy qualification. Desirable criteria MBA / equivalent experience Skills / Knowledge/ Ability Essential criteria Ability to negotiate and influence so that efficient and effective performance is achieved and targets are met. Able to present complex financial information to non-finance staff including directors, operational managers and clinical directors. Demonstrable experience of leading on and delivering complex change within a multi complex environment. Highly developed analytical skills – able to review complex processes and recommend appropriate changes to improve efficiency.
