St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group is looking for two Associate HR Business Partners for the new structure of the Clinical Group Embedded HR Team who will act as the key points of contact for Directorates, working autonomously with Directorate leaders to lead on organisational change, utilising workforce intelligence date to influence sustained improvement in directorate KPIS and creating interventions to support directorate people challenges. Main duties of the job The Associate HR Business Partner will provide an operational role within the directorates and as a senior HR professional, is expected to be largely self managing. It will be vital for the Associate HR Business Partner to understand and contribute to the key people priorities in the Clinical Group. This role will report to the Associate Director of People with set objectives. Working for our organisation The Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group was formed in 2021 consisting of 7 Directorates with a budget of c.£500 million: • Oncology • Surgical Oncology • Haematology, Cellular Pathology and supporting services • Gastrointestinal Medicine and Surgery • Surgery (Orthopaedics and Plastics) • Theatres, Anaesthesia and Perioperative • Transplant, Renal and Urology We are focused on delivery of services to the local population of South East London but also provide a large number of specialist services across the South East of England. We currently have the largest robotic surgery programme in the UK and are committed to developing our robotic centre of excellence. We oversee the largest theatre complex in the NHS and have an ambitious theatre development programme underway. We are one of the largest cancer centres in the UK, hosting diagnostic pathways, as well as delivering chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical treatments across our two cancer centres at Guys and Queen Mary Sidcup sites. Develop robust relationships with directorate leaders and to act as a critical friend to influence, challenge and support people priorities and monitor success. Work with directorate leaders and their teams in identifying people challenges and developing appropriate business focussed HR interventions, always with the aim of developing the leadership capability within the directorates. Support and challenge managers in the identification of training and development needs in respect of the people management agenda, linking in with OD to support the development needs. Support and coach in the application of HR policies and practices, providing advice and guidance on complex HR issues in order to minimise risk and financial exposure. Seek out and use workforce intelligence data, both internal and external, to identify the people management requirements within the service area, establishing credibility as an expert in HR. Coordinate a team comprising representatives from the different functional areas of HR, and where appropriate beyond HR, to analyse and interpret relevant workforce information and productivity measures Recommend, develop and support the implementation of appropriate HR interventions to address the People challenges facing the service area. Work with the wider HR teams to ensure the services provided meet the needs of the service area they support, utilising the expertise of the specialist teams in HR to ensure workforce challenges are addressed efficiently and effectively.
