St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview Job overview We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Cancer Nurse to join our directorate at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. This position is a full time, fixed term, two-year contract. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, innovative and passionate cancer nurse to lead a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) transformation project. You will play a pivotal role, supported by a nurse consultant to work along-side our cancer nurses, patients, their families and the wider team to remodel the CNS role, and transform the way they work and are trained, developed and supported. Importantly, the project will focus on ensuring CNS’s can deliver the best care to patients and have time built in for wider Trust engagement, service development and their health and well-being. Funding for the two-year project has been provided by the Guy’s Cancer Charity to review the current status of Cancer CNS Workforce provision across GSTT and to better understand future requirement over the next 5-10 years. You will have previous experience as a cancer CNS and be able to demonstrate experience in a credible clinical leadership role with evidence of service improvement, workforce development, leading the delivery of safe, effective care and enhancing patient experience. You will be mentored and supported to deliver the project through enrolment in the improvement apprenticeship run through GSTT and the Lean Enabled Group. Closing date: 11/09/2024 Interview date: 03/10/2024 Main duties of the job Main duties of the job The successful candidate will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including Cancer CNS’s, Nurse Consultants, Heads of Nursing, Director of Nursing, Consultants, South East London Cancer Alliance, acute trusts, voluntary sector providers and National senior cancer nurses, UK Oncology Nursing Society and patient representatives. The project will be delivered over two years through a pre-delivery phase (year one) and delivery phase (year two) and three interlinked work streams; CNS Core Roles, CNS Caseload and Supporting the health and wellbeing of our CNS workforce. In year one the project lead will engage with GSTT cancer CNS’s, collect baseline data, conduct a gap analysis, develop and test new models of care, conduct a training needs analysis and CNS health and well-being review. In year two agreed and tested changes will be implemented across the CNS service. It is anticipated there will be extensive external interest in the project and the findings will be shared through conference presentations and publications. Visible leadership is key in this role and the successful candidate will be someone who encompasses our Trust values. Stakeholder Liaison: Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and coordination. Communication and Reporting: Prepare and deliver clear and concise reports, presentations, and updates on project progress, outcomes, and recommendations to stakeholders, highlighting the impact of cancer CNS services and the wide cancer infrastructure. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about advancements and best practices in cancer service provision, contributing to the continuous improvement of services and processes within GSTT, with a specific focus on enhancing cancer CNS services and health and well-being.
