About the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Working in alliance with the Ministry of Justice, Mace, Designers, and Main Contractors are delivering the pre-construction and main works stages for four new prisons, along with extensions and refurbishments to existing prisons across England. This programme will deliver 20,000 modern and efficient prison places to meet future capacity demands.

The Contractors Alliance promotes collaboration among four major UK contractors, encouraging joint processes and shared working practices to achieve improved efficiency, cost savings, and other value outputs for the Ministry of Justice. The overall objective is to align interests between Alliance Members to deliver pricing, programme, quality, and social value benefits.

As Commercial Manager, you will integrate with wider programme delivery teams and contribute to commercial, procurement, preconstruction, and delivery stage activities. Your responsibilities will include managing and building relationships with suppliers, monitoring and reporting their performance and compliance, preparing interim payment recommendations and certificates, providing post-contract award commercial services for goods and services up to Final Account, and maintaining financial impact assessments for instructed changes.

You will negotiate financial impacts of compensation events, maintain project data sets for consistency and accuracy, assist with cost and expenditure planning and benchmarking, support cost management, trending, estimating and forecasting, analyse cost performance data for monthly reports, manage budget and spend profiles, and assess the impact of inflation, currencies, and exchange rates. Additionally, you will carry out cost impact analysis of proposed scope or schedule changes and assist Project Managers in preparing cost reports and analysis, identifying areas for learning and efficiency improvements.

Experience
Proven experience in the construction sector managing projects, including value management and programme development and monitoring to ensure delivery against key milestone targets. Previous experience working on large schemes delivering multiple packages of work from design through to completion is essential.

Qualifications
Degree in a relevant construction-related discipline. Background in Project Management or Commercial Management within construction, with a keen interest in career growth and embracing the opportunities offered by Mace.
