About the Role
The Financial Times (FT) is seeking a commissioning editor for its Project Publishing team, which produces in-depth content such as special reports on critical topics ranging from AI and business of sport to legal sector and luxury goods. The commissioning editor will take full responsibility for producing individual reports, projects, or series from concept to publication. This includes developing initial ideas, deciding content and format, commissioning articles, graphics and videos, editing copy, preparing for print and online publication, and arranging online promotion.
We are looking for an imaginative all-rounder comfortable managing a wide range of commissioning and editing tasks, collaborating closely with FT colleagues and freelance contributors. The role requires generating ideas for both traditional special reports and innovative online formats that engage new and existing FT readers.
Key responsibilities include writing or commissioning synopses, commissioning articles and multimedia content across core editorial verticals such as asset management, science, technology, sustainability, climate health, law, business education, and regions/countries; editing and fact-checking articles; liaising with editorial desks and bureaux on scheduling and feasibility; reviewing video edits and graphics; pitching new editorial projects; collaborating with FT Live to integrate event content; partnering with the main news desk for homepage promotion; and working with audience engagement and social media teams to promote content externally.
The use of AI
FT editorial staff do not by default use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create reader-facing content. AI may be used only in specific, pre-approved cases such as assisting data research. Applicants are expected to refrain from using AI in test submissions, ensuring all written materials genuinely reflect their own knowledge, skills, and experiences. AI may be used solely as a research or interview preparation tool. The use of AI is monitored throughout the application process to ensure fairness and transparency.

Our benefits vary by location but include generous annual leave, medical cover, inclusive parental leave packages, subsidised gym memberships, and opportunities to give back to the community.
