Job overview
We are currently recruiting for a new Contract Monitoring Development Manager within our Contract Monitoring team. The post holder will work with the Head of Contract Monitoring to provide activity and income information to internal and external stakeholders at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals. The post holder reports directly to the Head of Contract Monitoring and manages a team of one person.
We are seeking an experienced Contract Monitoring Manager, with excellent technical and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent communication skills including their information presentation skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for supporting the Contract Monitoring team in assuring and reporting the Trust’s contractual position to external and internal audiences, with a monthly value of approx. £200m.
The Trust is currently in the process of going through a number of fundamental changes including the adoption of new Contract Monitoring System, the implementation of EPIC in October 2023 following the merger with the Royal Brompton. These changes, alongside national level changes in the Contracting landscape will materially affect Contract Monitoring processes and create an opportunity for rapid development of the post-holder.
The post holder is responsible for the contract monitoring system:
Ensures that it reflects the most current rules for assigning correct activity groupings and tariffs as well as determining the appropriate commissioner
The post holder provides expert advice and guidance:
on HRGs, tariff structures, PSS allocation rules
on contract categories to enhance the understanding of our activity to both an internal and external audience
The post holder co-leads with the contract income information manager on key elements of the Trust’s contracting strategy:
the annual Commissioner proposal production process;
the alignment of contract monitoring with the Trust’s income plan;
the development and maintenance of master look-up files that determine how contracting information is presented and categorised.

Qualifications / Education
Essential criteria
Graduate with high level of numeracy
Masters degree in informatics-related discipline, or equivalent experience within the area of information management
Knowledge of current NHS issues relating to acute hospital contracting information management including national tariffs, HRGs, SUS, contract monitoring
Previous Ecperience
Essential criteria
Considerable post-graduation experience required in a post with a significant analytical component
Knowledge of NHS data including its structure, definitions and relationship to clinical activity recording
Broad experience of using information derived from large and complex data sets
Experience of working with contract monitoring
Experience in collection, management, reporting and presentation of financial and activity data
Experience of managing staff, including staff development
Skills/ Knowledge / Ability
Essential criteria
Knowledge of current NHS issues relating to acute hospital contracting information management including national tariffs, HRGs, SUS, contract monitoring
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work as part of a team and operate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Demonstrable ability to interpret meaning of numeric reports and explain complex concepts to a lay audience
Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrable ability to balance competing demands and priorities.
Good information presentation skills, evident in use of graphics and design of reports
Advanced Excel skills including macros
Self-motivated with genuine interest in subject-matter
