About the Role
As a Customer Delivery Driver at Sainsbury's, you will be the face of the brand at every doorstep, delivering groceries with a thoughtful, friendly, and helpful service that makes customers feel valued. You will drive a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van to deliver orders on time and in excellent condition, following planned routes and adapting to various traffic, weather, and road conditions. Your responsibilities include completing vehicle checks to ensure the van is roadworthy, clean, and organised, securing customers’ shopping before departure, and moving containers weighing up to 15kg. Deliveries may involve navigating steps, lifts, or longer walks from the van. You will communicate effectively with customers, keeping them informed of any delays or changes and handling queries professionally. When not making deliveries, you may assist with tasks across the store as needed, contributing to a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

Responsibilities
You will work within stores that have been central to their communities for over 150 years, delivering customer orders with energy, warmth, and care. Your role is vital in ensuring customers receive everything they shop for online with Sainsbury’s, day in and day out.

Experience
No specific prior experience required, but a full UK/EU driving licence held for at least 12 months with no more than 6 points is essential. You will complete an online driving risk assessment and a driving assessment upon joining.

About you
Friendly and welcoming with a genuine enthusiasm for helping customers and pride in delivering an excellent doorstep experience. Comfortable driving a larger vehicle safely in diverse locations including busy residential streets, city centres, and narrow country lanes. Able to work in a fast-paced, physical environment, repeatedly moving shopping containers up to 15kg. Able to use initiative, solve problems, and make safe decisions on the road. Enjoys working independently and as part of a wider store team. Flexible and willing to take on new challenges across the store. Open to learning and developing new skills, including using route and delivery technology.

Qualifications
Must be over 18 years old and have the right to work in the UK. Sainsbury’s promotes a safer driving environment with in-cab AI cameras monitoring driver behaviour to ensure compliance with road laws and defensive driving standards. No other formal qualifications are required.
