About the Role
As the face of Sainsbury’s at every doorstep, you will deliver groceries to customers in a thoughtful, friendly, and helpful manner, making them feel valued. You will drive a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van, ensuring deliveries arrive on time and in excellent condition. Your responsibilities include completing vehicle checks to ensure the van is roadworthy, clean, and organised, securing customers’ shopping before departure, and following planned routes while driving safely in various traffic, weather, and road conditions. You will move containers weighing up to 15kg and deliver shopping to a variety of properties, which may involve steps, lifts, or longer walks from the van. Excellent communication with customers is essential, including keeping them informed of any delays, handling queries, and managing order changes. When not making deliveries, you may assist with other store duties as required.

Requirements

Experience
No specific prior experience required, but comfortable driving larger vehicles and working in a fast-paced environment is essential.

About you
Friendly and welcoming with genuine enthusiasm for helping customers and pride in delivering the best doorstep experience. Comfortable driving a 3.5 tonne vehicle safely across diverse locations including busy residential streets, city centres, and narrow country lanes. Physically able to move shopping containers weighing up to 15kg repeatedly. Able to work independently and as part of a wider store team. Flexible and willing to take on new challenges and work across the store. Open to learning and developing skills, including using route and delivery technology. Able to use initiative, solve problems, and make safe decisions on the road.

Qualifications
Must be over 18 years old and have held a full UK/EU driving licence for at least 12 months with no more than 6 points. Right to Work eligibility in the UK is required. You will complete an online driving risk assessment as part of the interview process and a driving assessment upon joining. Sainsbury’s uses in-cab AI cameras to monitor driver behaviour to ensure safety and compliance with road laws.
